SARAH KO
We are thrilled to introduce Sarah Ko, an Environmental Scientist at the California Department of Water Resources. In her role, Sarah focuses on implementing water policies across the state. Currently, she is working on the County Drought Resilience Program (CDRP), which funds drought planning for California counties as mandated by Senate Bill 552 (SB552). This bill requires drought resilience plans for small state water systems and domestic wells. Additionally, Sarah serves on the planning committee for the County Cafe Series, a forum for county staff to collaborate and learn about SB552 implementation. She also works with agricultural water suppliers to ensure compliance with reporting requirements such as Agricultural Water Management Plans and Aggregated Farm Gate Delivery Reports.
Sarah has been an active member of the AWWEE community for two years and we are grateful she volunteers her time to help plan AWWEE webinars. What she appreciates most about AWWEE is how our organization supports women and provides a safe space for women in her field. Sarah is a strong advocate for DEI issues and serves as the EEO Counselor for her branch. She has also served on civil rights committees in her previous positions.
In honor of Women’s History Month, we asked Sarah what woman most inspires her. Sarah shared with us that her mother also works in a male-dominated field where she has had to overcome obstacles to rise to a Director level. Sarah is constantly learning from her mother and hopes to follow in her footsteps.
In her free time, you can find Sarah reading, baking, crocheting, hula dancing, and spending time with her dogs. Her favorite place to visit is the downtown area of Benicia.
