MO SHAPIRO
We are delighted to introduce Mo Shapiro, an assistant in the Operations and Strategic Sourcing Departments at Clean Power Alliance (CPA). In this versatile role, Mo has the opportunity to collaborate with all departments. One of their primary responsibilities is providing executive assistance to the COO. Additionally, Mo assists the non-energy contracting manager by enhancing processes related to CPA’s solicitation pipeline and supplier diversity efforts. One of Mo's most significant achievements at CPA is founding the Pride Employee Resource Group (ERG), a community among staff who identify as LGBTQ+ and/or allies. Mo has facilitated several events so far, growing the group's membership and engagement to encompass over a third of the organization.
Mo finds inspiration from Pattie Gonia, a drag queen and environmental activist. Drag has profoundly impacted Mo's life, empowering them to express their authentic self. Pattie Gonia has built a community of over 1 million followers who value human connection with nature, with the core belief that people will fight for what they love. Pattie has successfully raised millions of dollars in funding for environmental initiatives, curated community events in nature, and mobilized their followers to speak out against anti-LGBTQ+ issues, ensuring safe access to Mother Nature for everyone.
Mo has been a member of AWWEE for nearly two years and has recently taken on a volunteer role with the Los Angeles Event Planning Team. Mo is an enthusiastic volunteer who brings great event ideas and a willingness to roll up their sleeves to help wherever needed. We appreciate the contributions Mo brings to the team! Mo has also been an active participant in AWWEE's mentoring program, The Exchange. This year marks Mo's second year as a mentee, and they have found the mentorship outside of their organization and personal network to be highly valuable.
In their downtime, Mo enjoys all types of live entertainment, as well as relaxing at home, watching TV, and snuggling with their cat, Gracie. Mo also loves using their typewriter to journal, write poetry, and create collage art. Their favorite place to visit in the Los Angeles area is the Huntington Library & Gardens in Pasadena, a remarkable site featuring botanical gardens, diverse art collections, and culinary options from various cultures.
