KRISTA GUERRERO

We’re excited to introduce Krista Guerrero, a dedicated member of the AWWEE community for nearly a decade! Over the years, Krista has generously volunteered on numerous event planning teams and is currently an active member of the Orange County/Inland Empire team. She has also served as a mentor in our mentoring program, The Exchange, sharing her time and wisdom to support others in their professional journeys. Krista shared that one of her favorite parts of being involved with AWWEE is the opportunity to connect with a community of women who genuinely want to support one another. She finds it especially rewarding to play a role in the growth and success of her mentees. Another highlight for Krista is attending AWWEE’s in-person events—especially those in the Los Angeles area. One of her favorites was last year’s visit to the Anaheim Regional Transportation Intermodal Center, which left such an impression that she still shares the fun facts she learned with those around her!

Professionally, Krista serves as a Resource Specialist at the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, where she focuses on outdoor water conservation and water policy. She is currently leading several outdoor efficiency programs while also contributing to the development of state and federal water regulations and legislation. Krista is also passionate about public education, regularly appearing on TV, radio, podcasts, and at press conferences to raise awareness about water efficiency and drought issues.

One of her proudest accomplishments was being part of the team behind AB 1572, a landmark piece of legislation passed in 2023. The law prohibits the use of potable water for irrigating non-functional turf on commercial, industrial, and institutional properties beginning in 2027. Now, Krista is working closely with the California Water Efficiency Partnership and water agencies across the state to provide education and resources to support the law’s implementation. If successful, this legislation could significantly reduce water demand and play a key role in California’s long-term drought planning.

In her free time, Krista stays busy with her children, often shuttling them to their various activities. When she does get a moment to herself, she enjoys unwinding with a good book or watching musicals. One of Krista’s favorite places to relax is at the beaches of Southern California. Born and raised in the Los Angeles area, she’s spent countless hours exploring the coast with family and friends. For her, the sound of the waves, the ocean breeze, and the feeling of sand beneath her feet are incredibly calming. Whether it’s Huntington, Hermosa, or Newport Beach—Krista loves them all.
