Dongmei Huang
AWWEE is proud to spotlight Dongmei Huang as a valued member of our community. Since joining AWWEE about a year and a half ago, Dongmei has found inspiration in the organization’s strong network of women leaders and its welcoming spirit. She describes AWWEE as more than a professional association, saying it feels like a family. Through her involvement with the Virtual Events Planning Team, she has enjoyed learning from fellow volunteers and connecting with members across the water, energy, and environmental sectors. One of her most meaningful experiences was the understanding and flexibility the team showed when a demanding work schedule required her to step back from volunteering, while also reminding her that she would always be welcome to return.
Dongmei serves as an IT Project Manager at Southern California Edison, where she supports the Customer Service portfolio with a focus on digital channels, including SCE.com. She leads the delivery of enhancements and new features that improve the customer experience for both residential and business customers. She describes her work as transforming complex business priorities into clear, executable plans while ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and at a high level of quality.
What Dongmei enjoys most about her career is fostering an inclusive and collaborative environment where teamwork thrives. She believes that welcoming feedback and approaching challenges with a solution-oriented mindset creates opportunities for shared success. Her colleagues often describe her as the “glue” of the team because she brings people together with her positive attitude and the warmth she brings to the workplace.
Outside of work, Dongmei is passionate about volunteering. She serves on the Board of the LA County Arboretum Foundation and is Treasurer of the Nova Education Foundation. She also enjoys walking her German Shepherd with her husband while listening to audiobooks. Dongmei draws daily inspiration from two remarkable women in her life, her mother, who taught her resilience and optimism, and her daughter, whose empathy has broadened her perspective.
In recognition of Plastic Free July, Dongmei shared that sustainability begins with simple habits at home, including using separate recycling bins, choosing filtered tap water over bottled water, and ensuring recyclables are properly sorted.
