Tina Suarez-Murias
An AWWEE member for five years, Tina Suarez-Murias values the learning and networks the organization provides. She is an active volunteer on AWWEE’s Sacramento Event Planning Team, helping create opportunities for members to connect and grow. A favorite memory was AWWEE's 2020 virtual honey-tasting during the pandemic, where members sampled honey shipped to their homes while then joined a virtual event with the women entrepreneurs who launched the Sola Bee business - a sweet reminder of AWWEE’s creativity in building community. "Bee a Pollinator!"
Her career journey included roles with the California Air Resources Board, consulting firms, state agencies, a nonprofit, and even a railroad. She enjoyed finding creative solutions to protect human health and natural resources. Today, she especially values inspiring children to explore the natural world and encouraging young professionals to engage in their communities.
Now retired, Tina embraces what she calls “the volunteer and give-back time of life.” She serves on the boards of three Sacramento-area nonprofits: Save Our Sandhill Cranes, Friends of Stone Lakes National Wildlife Refuge, and the Environmental Council of Sacramento, where she supports outreach, fundraising, and conservation initiatives. She credits Mary Ann Dickinson, past President of the Alliance for Water Efficiency, as a mentor whose boundless energy and evidence-based approach continue to inspire her.
Outside of volunteering, Tina enjoys road trips. She's also a big fan of the Sacramento Ballet, all the museums and historic sites in and near Sacramento, and the book Becoming by Michelle Obama.
