SUSAN WHEELER

After nearly 13 years as a dedicated Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) employee, where she worked in workforce development, Susan Wheeler retired from SMUD in 2023.  If you’ve met Susan, it will not come as a surprise that in retirement she dedicates her time and energy to the development of young people in the greater Sacramento area.  Susan now works as a consultant for Jobs For The Future as a subject matter expert for the Department of Labor Infrastructure grant related to energy careers. In this role, she assists grantees to develop programs related to energy-related careers. What she enjoys most about this role is connecting and helping others, which reflects her personal philosophy to always “pay it forward”.

Susan has been an AWWEE member since 2012!  She shares that the connections to others with similar interests and the wide range of events that AWWEE hosts are what draws her to participate.  Over the years, Susan has attended nearly 50 events and helped to organize several herself as a volunteer.  We are grateful for all the time and energy she has given to help make the AWWEE community what it is today.

In her free time, Susan enjoys hiking, reading, and attending plays.  She is also a regular attendee of AWWEE events online and in the Sacramento region.  If you see her, don’t miss your chance to meet her.  She is lovely and she is always willing to help, especially if you need someone to chat with about career development!
