Rebecca Nicholas
This month we are proud to spotlight Rebecca Nicholas who has been an active and enthusiastic member of AWWEE in the Sacramento community for the past five years. She enjoys connecting with a diverse and engaging group of women professionals and values having a space where members can freely “dork out” over water, energy, and natural resource issues. One of her favorite AWWEE memories was touring an organic wine production facility, Lucid Winery, where she learned about sustainability practices that conserve water, reduce waste, and support responsible agriculture. The wine tasting was a memorable bonus!
Rebecca is a Partner at Fiona Hutton & Associates, where the fast pace and constant variety of her work make every day exciting. She is currently leading the development of a policy platform for the State Water Contractors, outlining legislative priorities, funding needs, and strategies to help maintain the affordability of State Water Project supplies. For Rebecca, the people she works with are the best part of the job. Her colleagues, clients, and partners share her passion for making California a better place through thoughtful policy and collaboration.
Before her current role, Rebecca spent years volunteering at the Monterey Bay Aquarium, rescuing and rehabilitating sea otters. She describes the work as challenging, enlightening, and deeply rewarding. Outside of work, she enjoys walking her dogs, reading, and solving the New York Times crossword puzzle. She never passes up an opportunity for lunch at her favorite Mexican restaurant, Tres Hermanas in Midtown.
