Walk and Learn with Dr. Sally Benson

Join AWWEE for our first “walk and learn” event, where we invite you to swap your desk chair for your walking shoes and headphones. During this 30-minute audio event, we will be interviewing Dr. Sally Benson, co-director of Stanford University’s Precourt Institute and Professor in the Department of Energy Resources Engineering in the School of Earth, Energy & Environmental Sciences.  Get some exercise and some fresh air while learning about Dr. Benson’s work to reduce greenhouse gas emissions for a low-carbon future.  We’ll also learn a bit about Dr. Benson’s career path and some other fun facts during a Q&A lightning round.

About our Speaker

Sally M. Benson is the co-director of Stanford University's Precourt Institute for Energy and a professor in the Department of Energy Resources Engineering. Benson studies technologies and pathways to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, including geologic storage of CO2 deep underground and energy systems analysis for a low-carbon future.

Before joining Stanford in 2007, Benson worked at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. She was division director for Earth Sciences, associate laboratory director for Energy Sciences and, finally, Berkeley Lab’s deputy director.

Benson is on the board of directors for the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and Climate Central. She also serves on several advisory boards, including for Argonne National Laboratory, Princeton’s Carbon Mitigation Initiative and the Lahore University of Management Science in Pakistan. She participated in research needs assessments related to carbon management for the National Academy of Sciences and the U.S. Secretary of Energy, and the National Petroleum Council.
