Water and energy are the world’s most precious resources.
In celebration of Water Action Month and Women’s History Month, the Association for Women in Water, Energy, & Environment (AWWEE) is pleased to host an asynchronous virtual screening of the water and energy documentary, Thirst for Power, based on the book by energy expert Dr. Michael E. Webber, followed by a live Q&A session on Monday, March 22 (World Water Day).
In addition to its members, AWWEE is extending the invitation to participate in this event to the members of Girl Scouts of America, their families, and other invited guests. Then, on Monday, March 22 (World Water Day), join Dr. Michael E. Webber, author, professor of mechanical engineering at The University of Texas at Austin, and Chief Science and Technology Officer at ENGIE, and Dr. Kelly T. Sanders, an Associate Professor in the University of Southern California’s Sonny Astani Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering for a live Q&A session. The discussion will be moderated by Katherine Ellis, the Director of Asset Management & Special Projects at Southern California Public Power Authority.
This event is powered by Itron, Inc and CPS Energy as part of the Smart Energy Education initiative (www.smartenergyeducation.com) in partnership with KLRN Public Television, the Paramount Theatre, The University of Texas at Austin, and Alpheus Media.
About the Thirst for Power Documentary:
Water and energy are the two fundamental components of a society, and they are interconnected. Thirst for Power, shot on location across France, California, and Texas, explores the history of civilization’s quest to procure abundant water and energy — from ancient Roman aqueducts in Europe to modern America’s vast hydroelectric infrastructure. The film explores our dependence on water for energy as well as vulnerabilities in our current systems. Changing the way we think about water and energy can secure the long-term sustainability of both precious resources. The documentary combines anecdotes and personal stories with insights into the latest science of energy and water, and identifies a hopeful path toward wise long-range water-energy decisions and a more reliable and abundant future for humanity.
