Discover the Marsh Where Wildlife and Water Quality Come Together!
Explore the San Joaquin Marsh & Wildlife Sanctuary with Irvine Ranch Water District (IRWD) for an inside look at how this unique ecosystem supports both clean water and thriving wildlife.
The marsh recently made headlines with a rare visitor, a juvenile purple gallinule, marking the first recorded sighting of the species in Orange County. But there is much more happening beneath the surface. Vegetation throughout the marsh naturally helps filter pollutants and protect local water systems while creating critical habitat for birds and other wildlife.
The experience will begin with a presentation from IRWD, followed by a guided walk along the marsh trails. Along the way, our guide will highlight native plants, explain how the marsh functions as green infrastructure, and point out the wildlife that makes this special place home. Bird sightings are likely, so bring your binoculars!
