Join AWWEE for a one-of-a-kind day that blends networking, service, and hands-on learning along the LA River!
In partnership with Friends of the LA River (FoLAR) and the Los Angeles Department of Water & Power’s Green Team, we’ll roll up our sleeves to make a real impact on local habitat restoration. Volunteers will work side-by-side to remove invasive mustard plants—a fast-spreading species that threatens California’s native ecosystems. Through this hands-on activity, you’ll gain insight into how invasive species disrupt biodiversity, and why their removal is a critical step in restoring healthy, thriving habitats. (Curious to see this work in action? Check out this video featuring FoLAR educator Dan Mott)
After our restoration work, the experience continues with a creative, restorative activity led by FoLAR educators. You’ll take part in seed ball making, a fun and interactive way to reintroduce native plants back into the environment. Together, we’ll learn how seed balls support long-term river health while connecting with each other in a more relaxed, nature-based setting. (Want a preview? Read this article on seed balls.)
All weeding tools and supplies for the educational activity will be provided—just bring your energy, curiosity, and willingness to get your hands a little dirty.
This event is the perfect opportunity to make a tangible difference for the LA River, connect with sustainability leaders and peers, and leave with new knowledge and connections.
