COVID-19 Impacts on Climate Action for Cities

Join us for a discussion of the impacts of COVID-19 on sustainability efforts from municipalities throughout California.  Panelists will provide an overview of their background and experience in sustainability, how COVID-19 has impacted their roles, and their insights into the future of sustainability efforts post-pandemic.

Heather Werner, Deputy Director of Sustainability, City of San Diego has been working for over 15 years in policy analysis, project management, and business strategy. In the energy and sustainability industry, her experience includes analyzing and engaging in policy and regulatory activities at the federal, state, and local levels across solar, distributed generation, and advanced energy industries; and providing operational and strategic guidance on market opportunities and risks.

Her experience includes developing and implementing solutions for variety of small businesses including: market research and business development; website and social media content management; new business processes to improve client engagement, internal communications, and project planning 

As the energy and water coordinator for the County of San Luis Obispo, Annie Secrest manages the energy and sustainability efforts at County facilities. Before joining the County in June of 2017, she worked at The Energy Coalition for three years managing energy efficiency projects for public sector clients under the Southern California Regional Energy Network program. Prior to The Energy Coalition, Annie worked for Chevron Energy Solutions as a business development research analyst. Annie has a master’s degree in environmental studies from California State University, Fullerton and a bachelor’s degree in environmental science and policy from California State University, Long Beach.

Robyn Eason has more than 15 years of professional experience in urban planning, neighborhood revitalization, and sustainability. Joining the City of West Hollywood in April 2016 as their first sustainability planner, Robyn currently manages a diverse set of citywide sustainability projects, including electrical vehicle charging readiness, clean energy initiatives, water efficiency and conservation, climate action planning, and green building. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Architecture and a Bachelor of Civil Engineering from The Catholic University of America in Northeast Washington (DC) and a Master’s in City and Regional Planning from Clemson University in Clemson (SC). She is currently an active member of the American Institute of Certified Planners, the Urban Sustainability Directors Network, and USGBC-Los Angeles.
