Keynote Speaker

  • We're thrilled to announce Janisse Quiñones as the keynote speaker for the 2024 AWWEE Conference.

Ms. Quiñones was confirmed as the Chief Executive Officer & Chief Engineer at Los Angeles Department of Water and Power earlier this year. She now leads a workforce of more than 11,000 employees at the nation’s largest municipal utility serving water and power to the four million residents of the City of Los Angeles, its businesses and visitors.

Don't miss the inspiring conversation with Janisse Quinones that will kick off the conference.

General Session Topics:

  • An interactive session where attendees will envision the future of water and a panel of industry experts will discuss.

  • A collection of perspectives on California clean energy and climate governing institutions, the diversity of the leaders needed to achieve clean energy goals, and the diverse voices, needs, and socio-economic status of the populations and stakeholders served.

  • Creating meaningful community impact is not easy. Collaborating with the right community partners is key to reaching target communities while advancing climate change solutions.

This interactive conversation will highlight collaborative organizations across the greater San Diego region. Each of these organizations is working to develop innovative and educational opportunities to reimagine a more resilient water and energy future – engaging minds and empowering the communities they serve.

Breakout Session Topics:

  • Learn to identify different personas, understand their communication preferences and motivators, and how to leverage your understanding of your audience for your success.

  • Remote and hybrid work can offer employees much needed flexibility. It can also result in increased multitasking, making it difficult to focus and be in the present moment. Attendees will learn more effective multitasking strategies to engage in more intentional work.

  • Letting go can be easier said than done. Whether it's a job, a relationship, or a tightly-held belief, how do you come to peace with the two simple words: "I'm done"? In this session, participants will learn essentials of self-discovery, self-advocacy, and navigating a graceful exit.

  • Delve into the concept of the Chingona Mindset in this session. We will cover practical techniques for cultivating a positive mindset, strategies to identify and overcome mental barriers, and effective time management and work-life integration. We will discuss how to remain forward-thinking by embracing change and committing to continuous development.

  • A showcase of three innovative solutions in the water, energy, and environmental fields.

  • Navigating disruption successfully requires businesses to embrace diversity and draw from a wide range of ideas, experiences, and perspectives. Lack of diversity often constrains innovation and decision-making, which can be detrimental during times of change.

The Thursday program will end with an evening dinner for all attendees.

FRIDAY
OCTOBER 25, 2024
8:00 AM - 11:00 AM

Interactive Wellness Activity

General Session Topics:

  • A candid conversation with a panel of women we admire. We'll discuss their journeys to success, their challenges and triumphs, and their vision for the future.

  • A panel of experts who will share current applications of GenAI and explore the possibilities for the future.

Closing Remarks & Conference Ends at 11:00 a.m.

11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Optional Volunteer Opportunity to Give Back to the Local Community

  • We are partnering with YWCA San Diego County to provide emergency meal kits to those in need. We'll provide all the supplies, lunch, and an energetic atmosphere for volunteers to enjoy while they give back!

The YWCA San Diego County is a non-profit organization dedicated to breaking the cycle of domestic violence and homelessness, serving individuals and families of all genders and races. Their mission is rooted in equity and justice, inspiring social progress and driving justice and equality for all through their survivor-centered approach.
