Wildfire and Ecosystems: The Good, The Bad, and the Unknown

Some ecosystems thrive with regular fire events, but fires are causing increased damage to our homes and other community assets. In this virtual panel discussion event, we’ll learn about the role of fire in ecosystem health and how human changes to natural systems affect the otherwise beneficial role fire has historically played in our environment.

ABOUT OUR SPEAKERS

Elizabeth Azzuz is a member of the Yurok Tribe and the secretary of the Cultural Fire Management Society, a community-based organization teaching the use of fire for cultural and natural resource management.

She has a broad interest in the consequences of human induced global changes, including the effects of biological invasion, nutrient enrichment, climate change, and altered disturbance regimes on vegetation patterns.
