October 5 is Clean Air Day 2022 - Learn more about Clean Air Day & take the Clean Air Day Pledge!
In celebration of Clean Air Day 2022, join AWWEE and special guest, Riverside County Supervisor V. Manuel Perez, for a discussion on the burden of air pollution on Southern California residents - especially those who live in low-income, minority communities close to the pollution sources.
The event will include a viewing of the 10-minute documentary film, The Right to Breathe, a signature documentary film, by the South Coast Air Quality District (South Coast AQMD).
The Right to Breathe captures air quality issues in Southern California from an emotionally powerful and personal perspective. Directed by award-winning documentary filmmaker Alexandre Philippe, the 9-minute film is meant to make viewers aware of the serious health effects of air pollution while also inspiring them to take action to help improve our air.
About Supervisor Perez
Supervisor Perez was appointed by Gov. Edmund G. Brown Jr. on May 9, 2017 to the Riverside County Board of Supervisors, representing the County’s Fourth District, and was subsequently elected to a four-year term in June 2018. The Fourth Supervisorial District covers the eastern two-thirds of Riverside County, stretching from Palm Springs and Desert Hot Springs, south to the Salton Sea and east to Blythe and the Colorado River.
Born and raised in the Coachella Valley, the son of immigrant farmworkers, Supervisor Perez attended local public schools and graduated from the University of California, Riverside. He taught at a local middle school and went on to earn a Master of Education degree in Administration, Planning and Social Policy from Harvard University. He was also Chief Government and Public Affairs Officer for Borrego Health, a federally qualified health center serving the under-served in San Diego, Riverside and San Bernardino Counties.
Prior to his current role on the Riverside County Board of Supervisors, he served on the Coachella Valley Unified School District Board of Trustees, Coachella City Council, and the California State Assembly. In the Assembly, he became majority leader and had more than 60 pieces of legislation signed into law focused on jobs, economic development, small business, education, health care access, infrastructure, renewable energy, transportation, air quality, environment, public safety, parks, technology, agriculture, water and the Salton Sea.
