Join us for a family-friendly guided walk/bike tour of San Francisco’s hidden infrastructure.
Start your morning with community and connection! Before the tour begins, join us for some networking over coffee and pastries, a perfect chance to meet fellow members and sustainability enthusiasts.
After fueling up, we’ll set off on a guided walk/bike tour exploring the fascinating intersections of San Francisco’s natural landscapes, historic infrastructure, and innovative urban planning. Beginning at the southern entrance of Sunset Dune Park, we’ll head north along the paved park trail, uncovering the hidden systems that have shaped the city we know today.
Along the way, participants will learn about San Francisco’s water and sewage infrastructure, vital networks that sustain daily life and protect the city’s environment. We’ll also explore the story of the park’s historic windmills, once essential in pumping water to transform the sand dunes into the lush, green oasis that became Golden Gate Park.
The tour will conclude at the iconic Dutch Windmill, where we’ll gather for a short history talk about its engineering, restoration, and role in making the park flourish. Whether you join by foot or by bike, this immersive experience offers a unique perspective on the blend of natural beauty, civic innovation, and history that continues to shape San Francisco.
