We hope you can join us on Saturday morning for a guided family-friendly two-hour hike along the Howard Ranch Trail at the Rancho Seco Recreational Area.
The 2-mile walk along the lake offers a special look at vernal pools, riparian marsh and grassland habitat, wildflowers and far-off views of the Sierra Nevada Mountain range. When filled with water, vernal pools are crucial to the short life cycle of federally listed threatened and endangered species, such as the California tiger salamander, fairy shrimp, tadpole shrimp, and Western spadefoot toad. In the spring, masses of flowering plants carpet the basins of these pools creating a sight not to be missed.
Bring a friend or your family along for this special event. Registration is free!
